Travel – Raiders Gravel

Your gravel adventure is within reach! The Raiders Gravel Event Village in Gatehouse of Fleet lies just off the main road (A75) through the Dumfries & Galloway region and wider the region is easily reachable from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester airports and only a short drive from Scotland’s southern border.

The main road within Dumfries and Galloway is the A75. Gatehouse is a 5 min drive from the A75 junction.

We are the first place in Scotland as you drive north, up the M6 and turn left just over the border. Follow signs for A75 and Dumfries and then Stranraer

Probably the fastest is via the A74 and then exit towards Dumfries on the A701. In Dumfries follow signs for A75 Stranraer.

If you come from the Newcastle side, follow the A69 towards Carlisle / M6 Gretna Green. From Gretna Green take the A75 to Dumfries and Stranraer.

From Glasgow, Edinburgh or Newcastle, Gatehouse of Fleet is a scenic 2.5 – 3 hour drive.

The ferry port of Cairnryan in the west of Dumfires and Gallow is just over an hour from Gatehouse of Fleet. The regular ferries sail from and to Belfast and Larne in N. Ireland. Newcastle Upon Tyne

There are a number of ports further south to connect with most countries in Europe.

There are a number of options to get into Dumfries & Galloway by train.

Lockerbie is serviced by Transpennine Express trains running from Manchester and Manchester Airport (about 2 hours direct line)  to Glasgow (about one hour direct line) and Edinburgh (about one hour direct line).

Dumfries has a fantastic link to Carlisle  – a regular service between Glasgow and Carlise. Carlisle in turn is really well connected with the South (London Euston) and Newcastle

Stranraer is serviced either by Glasgow (Scotrail) or Kilmarnock.

International Airports are in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle. Manchester has a great Trans-Atlantic link via train to Galloway. 

From Glasgow: Stagecoach X75 Service from Glasgow to Dumfries Whitesands (allows bikes, see below)

From Edinburgh: Stagecoach service from Edinburgh to Dumfries, 101A, 101S – (unfortunately does not allow bikes)

Stagecoach X500 Service between Stranraer and Dumfries. This service stops at Gatehouse. Find out more here

Note: Some Stagecoach services allow up to two bikes, as long as the wheels are covered (e.g bin liners).
